Abena Cassell-Swaby
Abena has been working in the field of Social Work for over 20 years. Her passion for working with individuals ignited during her teenage years when she supported children placed into foster care due to abuse and neglect. She initially started out on a path to work in computers but realized that wasn’t her interest or love. She then transitioned to studying social work and successfully graduated with a BSW (99) from Southwestern Adventist University and an MSW (00) University of Maryland at Baltimore.
Since being in the field, Abena has developed experience as a recruiter within foster care, management, and training of foster parents and staff, developing clinicians and helping them grow as therapists. She enjoys providing services to clients who are seeking someone to help them process their individual struggles to help them reach a level of self-empowerment and independence. Abena doesn’t see what she does as a job or a burden but as an enjoyment. She has always strived to give to others what was afforded to her.
When Abena isn’t working she is spending time with her family who are her motivation, strength, and support. She has a love for music and plays the piano, collecting dolphins and taking every opportunity to even swim with them. She lives by the motto “You have to take care of self in order to be there for others.”
